Our School Day
The school gates open at 8.45am and are locked at 8.55am. Please remember punctuality and attendance are crucially important.
Lessons begin at 8.55am, but activities related to learning begin from 8:45 when the children enter classrooms. School finishes at 3.25pm, but an after school club runs until 5:45pm. We are committed to developing punctuality as an essential life skill and excellent school attendance is all about full participation in learning and school life. If children arrive after 9:10am they will be marked in the register as an unauthorised absence and this counts towards their attendance percentage. Arriving after 8:55 will likely affect your child's day, socially and/or academically.
Our school week lasts for 32.5 hours, which meets the expectation from the Department for Education.
Morning Break
Reception and KS1: 10.30 – 10.45 am
KS2: 10.45 – 11 am
Lunchtime
Reception and KS1: 12.00 – 12.45pm
KS2: 12.45 – 1.30pm
Children in EYFS and KS1 also have a 10 minute afternoon break
Leave of Absence
A term time leave request form must be completed if you are requesting to take your child(ren) out of school during term time. Leave of absence will be granted in exceptional circumstances only. We will assess each request on an individual basis, considering any special circumstances of which you make us aware. Please complete the form found here and hand into the office at least 4 week before the absence date.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club is available from 7.45am to 8.45 am every day at a cost of £4.00 per child per day and must be bookable in advance. The link for booking is sent out weekly via Arbor. Toast with butter/jam etc. and cereal is available from 7.45am to 8.15am.
After school clubs and care
We provide an excellently resourced after school club, run by our own warm and welcoming school staff.

Tuesday: 15:25pm - 16:30pm / 15:25pm - 17:45pm
Wednesday: 15:25pm - 16:30pm / 15:25pm - 17:45pm
Thursday: 17:00pm - 17:45pm (You will need to sign up for Pride In Play for Afterschool Club from 15:25pm - 17:00pm)
Friday: 15:25pm - 16:30pm / 15:25pm - 17:45pm
At St Bernard's we do run some other after school, extra-curricular clubs. They are either run by school staff or sports coaching companies that we work in partnership with. Please see the newsletters for details or call 0117 903 0352. The clubs usually run from 3:25 to 4:30pm.
