Here are some of the incredible things we have done for Charity:
St Bernard's Catholic Primary School is a member of the Clifton Diocese Schools (Emmaus) Project.
What we are proposing to do?
We have become involved in a project that will reach out to thousands of young people and their families in the Masaka District of South-Western Uganda. Working alongside the International Tree Foundation and the Masaka and District Land Care Chapter, we aim to provide independent water resources for 23 schools. With the potential help of the family of Clifton schools we have the possibility of extending this project to many thousands more.
What problem are we trying to alleviate?
Millions of Ugandans lack access to safe water and improved sanitation facilities. Subsistence farming is contributing to rising poverty levels. One way to break the cycle of poverty is to encourage the development of sustainable economies that our project’s combination of tree planting and clean water resourcing can bring about.
Who are we working with?
It is important you are clear who our two partners are in this project. They are both dedicated to addressing climate change alongside land and food security issues.
The solution?
The project that we are part of will see our schools and other UK partners working alongside the International Tree Foundation and the Masaka and District Land Care Chapter (MADLACC) to plant tree nurseries in 23, or more, schools in the area. Our focus is to put independent water sources into each of those schools thus providing water for irrigation and for essential health and hygiene.
MADLACC
MADLACC is a multi-disciplinary community based organisation focused on sustainable land management. Its ethos is based on collective action, partnership and networking of community groups.

What is our aim?
To promote Catholic Social Teaching. Our Church proclaims that all human life is sacred and that we must all work to preserve the dignity of all people. Our work together, as a diocesan family of schools, will demonstrate our solidarity with brothers and sisters in Uganda to pursue food security and public health. It is a clear statement of our commitment to a preferential option for the poor. Working with our development partners in Masaka we are acting as stewards to show a loving concern for our planet.

- Shoes for Inchanga: At the end of last year lots of you donated your old school shoes (or even bought new ones!) to donate to our partner school in Inchanga. Mrs Pountney had a huge task sending them all off!
- Miles for Refugees with British Red Cross: In September we all ran/walked/scooted/roller skated as many sponsored miles as we could to represent the incredible journey that refugees have to go through.
- Global Learning: This year we have started up 'Global Learning; where we pick a continent and a global issue and learn all about them. So far we have looked at and raised money for: The Refugee Crisis (Europe), Fairtrade (Asia), Global Warming (Antarctica) and Sustainable Development (Australia). More information about all we have done can be found in Newsletters and on our displays in school!
- Shoe box Appeal: Lots of you brought in lovely Christmas Shoe boxes for those more in need than ourselves, thank you for your support!
- Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day: We raised nearly £200 on Christmas Jumper day, some fantastic knitwear was seen, lots of hard work went into homemade jumpers, too!
