Clothing for PE

Our policy on PE clothing is intended to ensure hygiene, practicality and, most importantly, safety during P.E. lessons.  PE Kits must be brought to school the first day of each term and taken home (for cleaning) the last day of each half term. It is extremely important to maintain a full kit in school at all times. (A replacement kit would be a good idea to have, should you want to clean/wash the kit during the school term).

PE Kit   Named bag containing:

  • White PE Vest or tee shirt
  • Navy Blue or Black Shorts
  • Navy Blue Jogging Bottoms (Oct-March) optional
  • Trainers (Juniors) for outdoor sports
  • Plimsolls (Infants) for outdoor sports

Jewellery: In the interests of children’s safety, no jewellery is allowed in school, except for a pair of small stud earrings and a watch. Earrings have to be removed for P.E. If a child is unable to remove the earrings due to recent piercing, they need to be taped over with tape supplied from home. Adults are not able to assist children in removing or replacing earrings.  Pupils may wear one stud in each ear. Rings, necklaces and bracelets are forbidden, in the interest of health and safety.

Hair styles/fashion accessories: Hair should be tidy, of a reasonable length, no shorter than number 2 on the clippers. Extreme hairstyles/fashion trends are not acceptable. Head bands, hair bands and clips must be small, simple and plain. Other hair accessories are not permitted.

Hair longer than shoulder length should always be tied back.

Nail polish and tattoos are not permitted.

Swimming

Boys – Trunks (not long shorts)

Girls – One piece swimsuit

(earrings to be removed before swimming)

Year 6 children go swimming once a week during Term 1; Year 5 during Term 2 and Year 4 during Term 3. This means most of our children reach the national curriculum requirement of 25 metres during their time at St Bernard’s and are able to continue their lessons once they have achieved this.
